Reasons for Blogging

My husband just came in and asked me "Why was I starting this?" I just couldn't answer him! Maybe its just that I have read so many while on Stitchers Guild and found that I wanted to do this too!

I am busy restarting sewing after finally completing fours years of study for a teaching degree. I have always wanted to teach, and in fact my various jobs ended up with me doing some form of teaching or training. My husband is in the oil exploration business and while at present it is booming it hasn't always been like this and we have been through our ups and downs. Teaching was a way of ensuring a stable income while still being available most of the time for our 4 children. Unfortunately in the area we live it is hard to get a leg in the door so I have taken a part time job as a lecturer teaching first year teacher trainees English and will become a reliever for the rest of the time.

I am in the process of trying to get clothes I make fit me properly so that I will want to take them out of the cupboard and wear them! The actual process of sewing is no problem as I have been sewing for about 35 years, its getting what I sew to look like the mental image that is the problem. At present I am working on a basic shirt and have just worked out that I need a rounded back alteration, shortening of the sleeve head so I can move the arms, adjustments in the sleeve for a larger bicep. Now to cut out some "nice" fabric and see how it all works. I am trying not to be precious about the stash as it has become slightly out of control.
